Working Careers, Work Ability and Health

Longer and more sustainable working careers are becoming increasingly important as the population ages and the size of the working-age population declines. Work ability and health influence how long and in what ways people can participate in working life at different stages of their life course. Reconciling work and family life, as well as successful labour-market migration, are also key factors for sustainable working careers. 

Current research within the DEMOGRAPHY programme offers insights into developments in the length of working careers, labour market participation among people with partial work ability, and the impacts of education and family life, as well as diversity in working life. The research also explores health inequalities and mental health.
