DEMOGRAPHY Academy
DEMOGRAPHY Academy is an innovative, dialogue-based programme designed to provide experts from political parties, ministries, and public organisations with up-to-date research knowledge on demographic development and a deeper understanding of its societal impacts.
Changes in population structure affect the sustainability of society, the economy, and people’s everyday lives in broad and complex ways. Responding to these changes requires anticipation and preparedness, adaptation, targeted policy measures, and cross-sector collaboration.
The aim of the DEMOGRAPHY Academy was to strengthen sustainable collaboration between societal actors and researchers, and to support the long-term use of research knowledge in decision-making.
The DEMOGRAPHY Academy consisted of five sessions that examined demographic development from different perspectives:
• overall picture
• changes in fertility and developments in family formation
• wellbeing, education, and employment
• immigration and integration
• population ageing and the growing need for care.
The programme included research presentations, discussions, and solution-oriented group work.
The concept can also be applied to other broad societal issues.
