Family Formation in Flux – Causes, Consequences, and Possible Futures (FLUX)
The multidisciplinary FLUX consortium seeks evidence-based solutions for influencing and adapting to changes in fertility dynamics that accelerate population ageing. The overarching goal is to improve the social and economic sustainability of Finnish society.
The consortium investigates changes in fertility and family formation and provides answers regarding:
- the causes of these changes,
- their consequences,
- the connection between family dynamics and social and gender inequalities, as well as challenges in psychosocial and economic well-being, and
- how national and local social and family policies can be developed to address new societal challenges.
The consortium brings together leading researchers in population studies and other fields (sociology, psychology, economics, social policy, epidemiology, and data science) who are crucial in understanding the causes and consequences of fertility changes. The research utilizes excellent registry and survey data, as well as qualitative data.
